Murang’a Seal vs Gor Mahia – K’Ogalo Can’t Afford Another Misstep

Gor Mahia’s title defence has been anything but straightforward. After falling 2-1 to City Stars on Thursday, the 20-time champions must collect all three points against relegation-battling Murang’a Seal to stay in the hunt.

K’Ogalo sit third with 53 points from 30 matches, trailing leaders Kenya Police (58 points) and second-placed Tusker (55 points).

A win in Murang’a would not only take them to 56 points, but also restore belief heading into their final run of games—with a game in hand over both rivals.

Despite three managerial changes this season, Gor’s head coach Sinisa Mihic remains defiant.

“Everything is good and we are eyeing a double this season. All the players are in high spirits and we have our entire squad to help us deliver the two trophies,” he said at the club’s training ground in Thika.

Statistically, Gor Mahia average 1.4 goals scored per match while conceding just 0.67—a stark contrast to Murang’a Seal’s 0.73 goals scored and 1.23 conceded. The hosts are 16th and dangerously close to the drop zone with 32 points, having lost 14 of their 30 games.

Kenya Police and Harambee Stars ace Mohammed Bajaber.

At the same time in Machakos, table-topping Kenya Police will be gunning for redemption against FC Talanta, just days after a stinging 1-0 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz threatened to derail their title dreams.

With 58 points from 31 matches, Police still hold a slim lead. But the chasing pack is closing in, and head coach Etienne Ndayiragije knows the pressure is immense.

“We are determined as ever to lift the trophy. It won’t be easy for us, but we remain resolute in our aspirations,” said Ndayiragije.

FC Talanta will take heart from their shock midweek victory over Tusker and will be out to spring another upset. They sit 13th with 35 points and are just about safe, but not entirely comfortable.

Police’s remaining fixtures—Talanta, Shabana, and Gor Mahia—could yet define the league outcome. Anything short of a win on Sunday may crack open the door for the chasing duo.

Tusker’s midweek collapse against Talanta was a bitter blow in their bid for a 14th league crown. They return to action desperate for a response against Sofapaka in Dandora.

The Brewers remain second with 55 points and a +11 goal difference. Head coach Charles Okere is well aware of what’s at stake.

“Hopefully, we will register positive results against Sofapaka in our next match. We don’t have a choice. Do we?” he posed, reflecting the urgency in the camp.

Sofapaka, meanwhile, are comfortably mid-table in ninth place with 40 points but have everything to gain by finishing strong. Their recent form has been underwhelming, yet they’ve proven capable of frustrating top opposition.
