The ritual, covered with heavy emotions and sadness, was like a joint farewell to a sudden life interrupted in the tragedy that shook the Elburgon and Molo communities in detail.
Victims, among them fathers, mothers and schoolchildren, died instantly on Thursday, May 8, while Three of Nakuru K Service collided face -to -face with a truck.
Their brown and white coffins were arranged on the school ground under the cold morning sky, with broken hearts hugging each other with sadness, many uncomfortable.
Each coffin had pictures and names of the deceased, stimulating the memories of the lively life he had previously enjoyed.
The choir songs of the local churches rose on mourners, mixing with cries and prayers.
“We did not expect to be buried six people from our village in one day,” said Mary Wanjiru, a brother of one of the deceased. “This is a very serious thing for one community to carry.”
After the service, the bodies of the six people were transported to Elburgon and Molo for the funeral of individuals later that day.
The three, alleged to have been traveling at high speed, is said to have found a tire pan before losing direction, overturning and hitting a truck coming from the other side.
County police commander, Michael Mwaura, initially confirmed that all twelve victims – six men and six women – died instantly.
He added that eight rescuers were rushed to various hospitals, some of them still receiving treatment due to serious injuries.
Among the dead was a student at Deb Primary School, Njoro, whose presence among coffins brought the most painful cries from classmates and teachers who had attended.
Eyewitnesses told the media that the accident occurred in the dangerous Chebonde/Arimi area on Njoro -Molo Road.
They described the unfortunate situation of the accident.
“Three was badly damaged. Only a few passengers survived, including a toddler and a driver,” He remembered Mirria Waithera, a resident who arrived early at the scene.
One of the survivors, John Mureithi, who was on the truck, said:
“We were hit after the three turned. It was a terrible situation. The screams … it still bothers me in the head.”
Photos circulated from the scene of the accident showed the front of the three in the front, the seats were dumped, and the windows were bursting – the horrible evidence of the accident.
