Nairobi – Minister of Internal Security, Kipchumba Murkomenhe pointed out that the murder of former Kasipul MP, Charles Ong’ongo Were, could have been avoided.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Wednesday, May 14, Murkomen described the security measures that Were could take to avoid the incident.
According to Murkomen, a former Kasipul MP realized that his life was in danger but did not take enough steps to deal with the threat.
“It depends on the level of the threat. You can see from the MP that he had a high level of threat. He was already worried about his safety from the beginning, and perhaps the biggest problem was failing to deal with the threat to the fullest,” Said Murkomen.
The minister insisted that Were had to publicly mention those who were planning to harm or report to the police for action.
Murkomen added that if the threat was referred to the police, then the offense lies with security officers for failing to take action against those responsible for the threats.
“Even if it was needed to make sure those people were arrested or convened a mediation session, or to name their names if he knew them – or the failure of those who received the report if it was actually reported at the police station – the failure to confront the ones may have contributed to his death,” he added.
Murkomen also noted that threats against Were’s safety were unique, considering that his guards allegedly were among those who planned the killings.
“We are now informed that the security officers who were serving him were likely to be involved in planning the killings. He was surprised.
