In his resignation letter sent to the President William Ruto And UDA officials, Gachagua said when the party came away from its founding ideology, accusing it of “a” dangerous political instrument “and betraying the economic, social and political promises made to Kenyans during the 2022 election campaign.
“Party UDA Lost during Kenya’s reform, ” wrote, adding that it has agreed “The wrong philosophy to rule the nation.”
Why did Gachagua resign from the UDA party?
His letter described the allegations of the failure of the party’s central agenda for the bottom-up economic change, accusing the administration of reducing key plans-such as Hustler Fund, housing program, health care reform, agricultural development and digital economy-in private projects and corruption methods.
Regarding agriculture, Gachagua complained of the lack of fertilizer and land grabs, while on housing, he criticized the deductions of labor payments and deviation from the original promise to create jobs.
He described the health care system under UDA as ‘collapsed’, saying the current model was turned into a “business.”
The former Mathira MP also condemned how the government deals with sports, education, women’s agenda, and social protection, noting that the party has failed to protect the weak and maintain equality in education and governance.
Gachagua did not escape the foreign policy of the state, accusing it of engaging Kenya into diplomatic conflicts, and warned that the government’s conduct is the same as “Constitutional Revolution.”
“In line with my understanding, the party we founded on the basis of good governance has turned into the worst enemy of the people of Kenya,” He announced, further criticizing it for betraying the vision of the Kenyan founders.
His resignation, in which the UDA chairman and the registrar of political parties, marks a major political change and is coming amid increased tensions over the administration and direction of the policy of Kenya first.
Gachagua concluded his letter by encouraging patriotism, saying: “It is my responsibility as a Kenyan who believes in the rule of law and the sanctity of our Constitution to resign from a party that does not listen to the people. ”
He resigned a few hours before the inaugural May of his political party, which would be a major part of the opposition.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, administrative expert Alfred Makotsi explained that Gachagua’s departure was not only by a signal but was strategically put in place to promote the new opposition camp before the 2027 elections.
“What we are witnessing is the collapse of internal solidarity in UDA and the Kenyan government first. The procession Youth led that strongly opposed the regime, ” He told us.
He added that the mediation of Gachagua and Fred Matiang’i could mark the beginning of a strong compromise that brings together the intellectuals and political scholars who have been denied reforms seeking reform.
“If Gachagua succeeds in persuading Matiang’i to resign from his international role and return to the politics of the country, this can be a terrible alternative. Makotsi finished.
Will Gachagua support Matiang’i as president?
Other news, Gachagua said that supporting the goal of former Prime Minister Fred Matiang’i would depend on the outcome of the ongoing consultations from the countryside.
Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to support Fred Matiang’i if the support he enjoys is now true.

Gachagua emphasized that support must come from the true support of the public rather than forcing, warning that the necessary contest will signal the loss of political direction.
The former MP also advised Matiang’i to resign from his current post in the World Bank in Washington, DC, before being fully involved in politics, citing the need for a change of honor.
In addition, Gachagua warned the Kisii community against the return of what he described as “brokerage politics,” and warned that any support for Ruto would be a whole painful betrayal.
Is Matiang’i fully supported by the Gusii community?
During the interview, Gachagua also expressed his concern about the type of support that Matiang’i had received in his Gusii Stadium, claiming it was not enough.
According to the former DP, some prominent leaders from the community, such as Governor Simba Arati and the majority of the national parliament in the National Assembly Sylvanus Osoro, were pulling each other in different directions.
Gachagua claimed that although Arati attended Matiang’i’s home meeting, he was still loyal to ODM leader Raila Odinga, who referred to him as a “broker”.
This confusion, according to the Second Deputy President, would reduce the position of Matiang’i to be supported by other leaders for the presidency.
