How Kenyan got a job using fake certificates
Munyeti was arrested following allegations that he used a fake Certificate of Secondary Certificate of Kenya (KCSE), which was falsely submitted to the National Examinations Council of Kenya (KNEC), to find employment at Nairobi’s Clean Water and Sanitation Company.
“As a result of the fraudulent appointment, the suspect illegally received KSh 9 million for payments from public funds between March 2010 and December 2023,” read the EACC’s information section.
“Upon completion of the investigation, the case file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved the prosecution of the suspect for defrauding the headmaster, forged and seized public property through fraud. It ended the information.
Arriving in court on Tuesday, May 13, the defendant requested that he be released on bail, claiming that he is a family member and is currently unemployed.
The prosecutor told the court that the government does not oppose the defendant to be granted bail or bond and request the counsel be arranged for the referral to submit documents to the accused and to be charged.
The defendant was released on a cash bail of KSh 200,000, and an alternative bond of KSh 500,000.
The case will be referred to May 26, 2025, in an open court for pre -hearing instructions.
Are Kenyans looking for a job using fake certificates?
Personal cases using professional papers to find jobs have been reported for a long time.
Last year, the Public Service Commission (PSC) launched a report outlining the fraudulent cases of professional certificates used by Kenyans to find employment.

In 2023, the PSC revealed that some public employees in key government agencies gained their positions using fake certificates.
Where are Kenyans with fake certificates?
According to the report, a large number of public officials with professional qualifications are focused on the Ministry of Home Affairs, Kenyatta National Hospital, Moi’s Training and Appeal Hospital, and the Chief Development Agency, which is an organization under the Ministry of Kawi.
PSC chairman Anthony Muchiri explained that the commission conducted a verification exercise, which previously revealed that more than 2,000 government employees had been employed, promoted and appointed other jobs using misconceptions.
Muchiri also said that the people were among the 2,067 fake cases identified in the investigation initiated in October 2022.
The survey was expanded to 331 institutions, including 52 ministries, 239 government agencies and semi -independent government agencies, as well as 40 public universities.
How do Kenyans forged their professional certificates?
The results of the investigation exposed various types of documents, such as the distortion of the average KCSE scores, forgery of KCSE certificates for people who did not take the test, and fake professional qualifications.
Some people were also found that they had never done or registered for the alleged exams.
Muchiri confirmed that the PSC submitted its report on the fraud of professional and professional certificates to the EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), and recommended legal action be taken against the people involved.
