Gachagua questioned Matiang’i’s support within his Kisii community, saying that in order to be taken seriously in national politics, he must first receive full support from home.

Matiang’i had been approved by the Jubilee party as a presidential candidate and later joined a broader opposition coalition.

The coalition includes the PLP of Martha Karua, Dap-Kenya of Eugene Wamalwa, Wiper’s party Kalonzo Musyokaand other political parties.

Rumors suggest that the coalition may have recommended Matiang’i and Kalonzo as fellow presidential candidates against the president William Ruto 2027.

However, Gachagua expressed concern in a television interview held on Monday, May 12.

Why does Gachagua doubt the support of Matiang’i from his fort?

The politician claims he is close to the emotions of the people in the country, especially in the Mount Kenya region, where he says he enjoys great support from the public.

Accordingly, the reception of Matiang’i in the Kisii area has been hybrid, citing the lack of position of senior leaders of the community.

“I want to know if Matiang’i is really embraced by the Kisii community as their leader,” Gachagua said. “If young people can insult him without elders, then who will protect and defend his leadership?”

The former Mathira MP also criticized Kisii governor, Simba Arati, claiming that his urgent move to encourage Matiang’i to join the ODM leader Raila Odinga It raised questions about the authenticity of Matiang’i’s support in its area.

He called on the Kisii community not to return to what he called “brokers politics” and warned that if they changed their trust and re -joins President Ruto, then that would be a painful betrayal.

“In order for Matiang’i to be accepted nationally, his community must first organize and defend him as their leader. Gachagua emphasized, adding that true leadership starts at home before looking for a position at the national table.

What will make Gachagua support Matiang’i?

Gachagua acknowledged Matiang’i’s leadership capabilities, referring to him as “he has a reputation, a lively, and a brave.”

“Matiang’i seems to be ready for the highest work, but without open support from Kisii, where will his goal stand?” Gachagua asked, emphasizing that any presidential candidate must make sure he has a vote from them.

To find out the views of the people, Gachagua revealed that he had sent a team of about 20,000 local supporters across Kisii to explore the views of Matiang’i’s intention.

He emphasized that his support would depend on the outcome of the exercise.

“If people really support him, then I am ready to support him. But it should not be forced. If you force it, then we have lost focus,” Gachagua said.

The removal deputy president also added that the opposition should agree on the joint strategy and ensure that the candidate who is elected to fly the flag is of agreement – whether it is Matiang’i, himself, or Kalonzo.

In addition, he advised Matiang’i to officially resign from his current position at the World Bank in Washington, DC, before fully involved in politics.

He said that the transition process should take into account the respect of the individual and the nation as a whole.

“He must come back, collect his files, and he will officially hand it. Gachagua insisted.
