Siaya – Nine family members who died in a suspected burning attack on Tuesday, April 22, in the suburb of Ugunja are facing sadness and anger.

The family accused the police of negligence and delaying action, saying that such a great loss would be inevitable if law enforcement officers responded to their constant call for help.
Leonard Ochieng ‘, his younger brother Richard Ouma Opondo, a father who passed away with his wife and seven children, expressed his sadness and allegations of not taking action against the police despite numerous threats.

He said the family had been in a long -standing land dispute with chief suspect Christopher Okelo Owino who allegedly threatened them several times.
“We have been going to police in early July last year after the court issued an order to evict Owino,” Ochieng ‘recited.
“But the Sigomere Police Station soldier continued to hold the order and made excuses,” He claimed.
Sadly, Ochieng ‘he himself escaped, recounting a tragic incident when the burning suspects tried to burn his house as well.
“My house was the next one. Ochieng ‘he said.
Despite reporting the threats several times, he claimed no action was taken, leaving the family sad and afraid.
“We did everything right. We reported threats. But no one listened. Ochieng ‘he said.

With the funeral date scheduled on May 2, the family is now calling on the citizens and elected officials to be supported to bury their loved ones with respect.
“We are disappointed. This is a great thing for one family to carry alone. We need help to keep them effective,” Ochieng ‘he said.
Bishop Okoth Okoyo, a relative joined the call for justice, and called on the authorities to take immediate action to prevent such disasters from recurring.
“The man has threatened many of us because of the land. The government must take action. What happened to the Richard family should not happen to anyone else,” Okoyo said.
While investigations are underway, the family has claimed to be held accountable by the police, which is believed to be unable to respond to the threats to contribute to the deaths of the nine family members.
