Speaking during a strategic meeting with leaders and supporters of the Party of National Unity (PNU), Munya said that he would not seek, nor would he perform, any alternative political responsibilities outside his county.

“To avoid doubt, I will focus on the Meru County governor’s seat in the next election,” Munya announced.

In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, Munya explained that he was dedicated to all his time and resources to campaign and cooperate with voters, adding that his decision to return to the county leadership was based on the call of Meru residents who appreciated his previous performance.

“I focus on finding the job that I used to have, and I believe I did well, the people of Meru have urged me to go and serve them for another semester, I listen to their voices,” Said the former secretary of the agricultural cabinet.

Munya was insisting on dismissing any allegations that he was considering another political or public service, saying such rumors were unfounded and misleading.

“Let me make it clear. I don’t look for any other work. He insisted.

Regarding the broader direction of the party, Munya noted that the PNU has not yet decided about the presidential candidate for the next 2027 elections.

However, he assured members that the party was open in partnership with other political parties, and that the planned and transparent procedure would be followed in identifying the right candidates.

“We will follow a clear and participatory procedure in electing candidates, so far the party has not yet completed the presidential candidate, the first step is for interested members to express their official intentions, and from then on the internal review process and consultation will take place,” He explained.

The meeting, which brought together senior stakeholders and youth representatives, was part of the PNU’s early preparation for the 2027 elections.

Munya promised that under his leadership, the youth would not be sent back to the political side, instead they would be the key to decision -making and advocacy efforts.

In early April, Ruto revealed that he had initiated talks with Munya and Mithika Linturi about possible positions in his government.

This followed the request of the new governor of Meru Isaac Mutuma, who called on the president to include the two leaders in his broad government.

Speaking in Flowers, Ruto confirmed the ongoing negotiations between Munya and Linturi, suggesting that plans are already bringing them back to government responsibilities.

Munya, who served as an agricultural minister under the former president Uhuru Kenyattahe was inherited by Linturi, who was fired by Ruto in 2024.
