President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to be the official guest at the awards ceremony known as ‘Samia Pen Awards’ that promote development journalism in various fields.
The awards organized by the Tanzania Women’s Journalists Association (TAMWA) in collaboration with the Tanzania Communications Authority (TCRA) are expected to be released on April 29, this year at the Mabeyo Complex hall in Dodoma.
Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam today on April 15, 2025, TAMWA CEO, Dr. Rose Reuben said the awards are aimed at promoting developmental journalism focusing on conducting extensive analysis and research, increasing local content, focusing on professionalism, values and professional accountability.
He said the awards, which are also aimed at promoting patriotism and creating a positive image of the country came from the training provided last year (2024) which aimed to promote and promote development journalism in the country.
“The beneficiaries of these awards are journalists, online content publishers, news officers, media broadcasters who participated in sending works that were posting or published through their media” said Reuben and added
“These awards are divided into three categories, the first group includes special national awards including the award for the national media, the media, the award of the government’s best Information Officer, the national journalist and the award for journalism for clean energy for cooking,” he said.
Reuben said the second group includes awards for media that are television awards, online media, national radio, newspapers and social radio while the group is sector awards that will be presented to journalists who specialize in writing development articles in various sectors.
“The various sectors include health, water, energy, environment, gender, women and special groups, construction, industry and business, natural resources and tourism, livestock and fisheries, blue economics, agriculture, culture, arts and sports, ICT and Creativity, Land and Housing, Minerals, Finance and Economics, Youth, Education and Investment,” he said.
He said the incident would be broadcast on various television, radio and social networks to enable all citizens who voted for journalists and the media to monitor the results of the award.

And TCRA’s Chief Service and Broadcasting Unit, Kaaya has called on journalists in the country to continue to write development news as well as to be patriotic in the nation while encouraging the use of technology.
He said the Samia Pen Awards will provide a great opportunity for journalists to prepare and write high -profile and high -profile information and inspire Tanzanians to understand the major developmental issues made in the country.
