The arrest of Governor Kimani Watangi sparked outrage among some Kiambu residents, who surrounded the Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC).

The seemingly angry residents expressed their disturbance of the arrests of the Matani, who was detained on charges of KSh 1.5 billion.
The protesters had posters and sang songs to praise the governor who was being interviewed at the time.
“He has defended us, he has defended us, the Matani has defended us,” The protesters sang together.
During the arrest of the Matani, the EACC received a cash flow of Kenyan shillings and US dollars from his home, which were later publicly shown.
Authorities discovered approximately 12 million KSh and $ 13,000 in the search, which investigators suspect that it is probably corrupt income.
What did the EACC say about the arrests of the Matani?
Following the arrest of Governor Matani, the EACC confirmed in a statement that it carried out an invasion in its residence and that of eight other county officials.
According to the agency, the invasion and arrest of the Kiambu governor was later linked to an ongoing investigation into the allegations of KSh 1.5 billion fraud.
In addition, the nine people are being investigated for conflict of interest and violation of the procurement rules related to the KSh 230 million contract issued to M/s Filtronic International Limited in the financial year of 2022/2023.
The executive director of the authority, Abdi Mohamud, said the EACC plans to implement criminal charges as important.
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was found guilty in the case of corruption
The arrests of the ranks came several months after its predecessor, Ferdinand Waititusentenced in the case of corruption.

Waititu and his wife, Susan Wangari, were charged with fraud for a bid of KSh 588 million from Kiambu County.
The bid they received was intended to improve the road within the county. Waititu and his wife faced charges of fraud, money laundering, office abuse and conflict of interest.
The couple was brought before Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki in the Mountains Anti -Corruption Court on Wednesday, February 12, in which the judge said that the evidence presented by the prosecution was sufficient to involve the defendant in fraudulent activities.
However, the defendants were acquitted on a charge of money laundering.
Guilty of a conflict of interest, Waititu was sentenced to seven years in prison or a mandatory fine of KSh 51 million.
On a separate case, he was sentenced to five years in prison or an alternative fines of KSh 2.5 million, bringing the total of the fine to KSh 53.5 million or 12 years in prison.
His wife, on the other hand, received a one -year imprisonment of a year in prison or an alternative fines of KSh 500,000.
