“It is with a deep shock and sadness that I announce the death of my personal assistant and defender George Oduor tonight in Nairobi after a short illness,” Raila wrote in a Facebook post.
According to the former prime minister, Oduor's relationship with the Odinga family began in the late 1980s, serving under Raila's father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, before continuing his faithful service under Raila himself.
Through decades of political turmoil and important personal actions, Oduor stood beside Raila in times of victory and misery.
“He has been careful, quiet, confident, and professional, dedicated to work and reliable rock on my side all these years through times of turmoil,” Raila insisted.
The leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) noted that Oduor's death is not only personal loss but also during pain for many who knew and worked with him.
He acknowledged the great sadness felt by the Oduor's family, friends, and colleagues, by recognizing the unchanged role he played in their lives.
