Njoroge later returned with civilian officers who arrested Kiprotich at the bus station on Friday, March 21 and took him to Nakuru Police Station, where he remained on the weekend before he was taken to court on Tuesday, March 25.

Kiprotich's sister, Judith Chebet, revealed that she phoned her on March 25, asking for help to get KSh 3,000 so she could be released.

“He told me it was a little misunderstanding with a fellow passenger; he claims I insulted him, but I didn't.

Their mother managed to send the money, but shortly afterwards, she phoned again, saying the officials now claim KSh 10,000.

“We were told they wanted three thousand. And when I told him I had no, he called my mother, and used her. About an hour later, he said, 'Oh, they said they didn't want three thousand, they wanted ten.' I said to him, “Wait for me, I will come and take you as soon as I find it,” said Chebet.

Three days later, on March 28, the family received sad news that Kiprotich died while in detention.

Why does the Ciprotich family suspect a dirty game

According to Nakuru GK Prison Chief Gerald Gichunge, Kiprotich was admitted to the center on March 26 and appeared fine during the trial in court.

“He was struggling at night and continuing to walk around before sleeping near the door, the next morning his fellow prisoners realized he had no answers and reported to the officers, we do not know what happened, even if he had signs of surrender, that alone could not kill anyone, we want the corpse to give us a clear response,” said Gichunge.

He was taken to Nakuru's Training and Appeal Hospital, where he was confirmed dead when he arrived.

Despite these details, the Kiprotich family insists that his body had suspicions, including marks on his back and head.

His sister, Chebet, believes he may have been beaten in detention.

His colleagues Kiprotich and human rights activists have called for an independent investigation, citing the possibility of a dirty game.
