The suspect, Collins Leitich, also known as Chepkulei, a resident of Asis village in Ndugulu area, had set up a fake police station and even painted the police colors to look like it was legitimate.
The fake patrol center was discovered by local police, who immediately began investigating.
Officials from Kamuyu police station, under the sheep police station, were notified and recorded the incident under OB04/08/03/2025.
Residents described their shock when they realized that the patrol center was not valid.
“We were surprised to find out that the police station was not official. Many of us thought it was legitimate efforts to improve security in our area,” He said one resident, according to a Citizen Digital report.
Authorities have not yet identified Leitich's intention to set up the fake police station. However, it has assured residents that legal action will be taken while the investigation is underway.
According to the National Police Service Act of 2014, only the Inspector General (IG) of the police have the authority to establish official police stations.
The law requires police stations to be distributed equally to all counties and to be as administrative and legal facilities.
Also, police stations are responsible for registering criminal victims, addressing complaints against police, and ensuring better public service.
At present, the suspect is being detained while the investigation is underway.
