The pre-match talk, however, was dominated by aspects of Guardiola's personal life after it emerged that he and his wife had gone their separate ways.

Guardiola and his wife, Cristina Serra, separated after more than 30 years together. They first met in 1994 but got married in 2014 in a private ceremony there Barcelona. They have three children together.
