According to a Kiswahili paper, President William Ruto chose a goat as a gift during his first publicized visit to his predecessor's home, Uhuru Kenyattain Ichaweri, Gatundu, Kiambu County.

Goats hold great importance among the Kikuyu people and symbolize goodwill in burying the enmity between the two political parties who were friends.

Interviews with those who accompanied the President to Kiambu revealed that he brought 12 goats. They were transported by truck before his arrival, and Uhuru received them.

The country was surprised on Monday, December 9, by the unexpected visit of Ruto to his predecessor's house in Ichaweri, Gatundu South, Kiambu.

Ruto served as Kenyatta's deputy from 2013 to 2022. The two had a general election before the 2022 general election, and after Dr Ruto took office, Mr Kenyatta complained of being harassed by the government.

It has emerged that before Ruto's visit to Ichaweri, the two had met in Nairobi on November 16 and later attended the dedication of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung'u of the Catholic Church in Embu County.

“They also met last week at Caledonia (Uhuru's residence in Nairobi) one evening,” sources revealed.

2. Saturday Nation

The paper reported that what started as a joyous event at the Paradise Pentecostal Church of God (PAG) in Luanda town, Vihiga County, on December 1, 2024, turned into a painful tragedy that rocked the congregation.

A donor who intended to unite the faithful of 10 churches under the Ebutsatsi district of Pag ended in a heartbeat when poisoned food claimed two lives and left more than 50 others dead.

The event, which took place amid the ongoing leadership conflict that has been brewing in PAG since 2015, drew worshipers from the area.

But as the crowd celebrated, they unknowingly consumed a poisonous mixture of rice and beans – an act that some have questioned as just an accident.

Hours after eating at the fundraiser, disaster struck when those who ate began to suffer from severe diarrhea, vomiting and dizziness.

According to Pastor Kennedy Kimiya, chairman of Consortium 10-Church, the retired pastor reportedly prepared the food and sealed it immediately before serving it more than 12 hours later.

Ebutsatsi District Supervisor, Patrick Watate also called for an urgent investigation for the victims and affected families to get justice.

3. The Star

The paper reported that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's accusations have set the stage for a major political battle in Mt Kenya, where party politics, dynasties, and personal ambitions are set to collide ahead of the 2027 general election.

Once considered the de facto regional kingpin following Uhuru Kenyatta's ouster, Gachagua now faces a major challenge in regaining his influence at a time of shifting loyalties and growing divisions.

This power struggle dominates old rivalries and sets the stage for a complex political conflict.

Political analysts say that Gachagua's charges have once again changed the political dynamics of the region, revealing deep cracks within the leadership of Mount Kenya.

They point to shifting ambitions, genealogical stories, and the perennial question of who – between Gachagua, the Kenyatta family, and current Deputy President Kithure Kingiki – will hold the national stage.

On Monday, Ruto held talks with his predecessor, Uhuru, in a surprise meeting in Gatundu.

It has emerged that Ruto could appoint Uhuru's allies, including his brother Muhoho Kenyatta, to strategic roles within his administration.

This step is expected to reshape the country's political environment further and increase Gachagua's isolation.
