The family of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga is in mourning following the death of his 50-year-old son, Athman Mutunga.

Athman died on Saturday, October 12, at the Coptic Hospital after undergoing four surgeries in the past two months.

The family has not released an official statement about the illness that caused his death.

Following this tragedy, many Kenyans, including members of the Judiciary, have expressed their condolences to the family.

“On behalf of the family of the Judicial Department and myself, I offer our sincere condolences to the retired Chief Justice (Rtd) Dr. Willy Mutunga and his family for the loss of their beloved son, Athman Mutunga,” he said.

The President of the Supreme Court emphasized his support, indicating that the Judicial Department will continue to be with Mutunga's family at this difficult time. Koome wished them strength and patience during this period of grief.

“Although words cannot completely ease the pain of losing a loved one, we hope the family will find comfort in the memories shared by Athman. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mutunga family, and we ask God to rest Athman's soul in eternal peace,” he added.
