Video: CCTV footage emerges showing thugs shooting a financial services agent

New developments have emerged regarding the murder of a mobile money operator in the Soroti area.

On Saturday, April 11, the police announced the arrest of four suspects linked to the murder of 36-year-old Kokunda Patricia.

Who are the main suspects in the murder of Kokunda Patricia?

According to the police report, the incident happened at 4:40 in the morning near the Goalman Supermarket along Station Road.

“Police in East Kyoga Region have made great strides in investigating the robbery and shooting death that resulted in the death of Kokunda Patricia, a 36-year-old trader and mobile money operator in Soroti City. The incident occurred on April 3, 2026, at 4:40 a.m. near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road, when unknown assailants shot the victim and fled with her bag containing cash and other valuables,” the police said.

The quick action of the police led to success in the investigation.

Since the initial four suspects were arrested, the number has increased to eleven following continuous intelligence operations in Soroti, Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim districts.

Those arrested include Epeu Simon popularly known as Iboda, who is suspected of pulling the deceased from his car, and Emenyu David, popularly known as Ogwang Sam, popularly known as Olipong, who is believed to be the shooter.

Other suspects are Okello Emmanuel popularly known as Imorning, Eyamu Rashid popularly known as Odekuro, Elacu Alfred, Akello Hellen, Okello Alex, Ojele Jorem popularly known as Jogo, Elwanu Julius, Onebo Felix, and Akello Salume (the shooter’s wife).

Following their arrest, the police recovered KSh 367,000 out of the KSh 978,000 stolen during the incident.

The police also recovered a gun suspected to have been used in the attack, a red motorcycle with no license plate, and a Tecno Canon mobile phone belonging to the deceased.

“So far, important evidence has been recovered, including the gun suspected to be used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing worn during the operation, a red motorcycle with no license plate, and a Tecno Canon mobile phone belonging to the deceased. The total amount recovered is UGX 10.5 million, out of an estimated UGX 28 million that was said to have been stolen,” the police said.

Investigations are ongoing to find the remaining suspects and identify the entire network involved in this organized armed robbery, and the public is encouraged to be vigilant and report any credible information to the nearest police station.

Did CCTV capture the shooting?

Police have released CCTV footage of the tragic incident which happened at 5.40am on Good Friday.

The deceased had left his home and boarded a taxi along Station Road, near Goal Man Supermarket, on his way to Ocorimongin Livestock Market in Katakwi district.

In the photos seen by TUKO.co.ke, the deceased was seen entering the three of the passenger while the suspects looked at him carefully.

The main suspect entered the matatu shortly after Patricia and dragged her out. He grabbed his bag and ran.

As Kokunda tried to follow him, his armed accomplice opened fire, fatally hitting him in the legs in front of onlookers.

The owner of the shop, Isaac Bunyasi, reported that armed robbers invaded his shop around 7pm and attacked his 25-year-old employee, identified only as Anne, to death.

According to him, the suspects escaped with KSh 800,000 in cash.

Bunyasi said he sent Anne money for the float to serve customers who were waiting to make transactions. Shortly after, all the money he sent as well as the money he had received was stolen during the robbery incident.
