Police in Homa Bay are investigating the sudden death of a prison officer, just hours after being informed of his impending transfer.

Constable Ronald Benard Ochieng, who was lodged in the Homa Bay State Prison, was found dead at his home by colleagues who visited him on the evening of Saturday, April 11, after failing to reach him by phone.
Where was Benard Ochieng transferred?
According to a KBC report, the constable died on the night of Friday, April 10, a few hours after being ordered to report to the Siaya Government Prison.
Homa Bay County Criminal Investigation Officer, Peter Kimulwo, confirmed that the deceased was not ready to accept the new duty station.
He reportedly called his mother and expressed his displeasure about the transfer before hanging up.
Before the transfer, Ochieng was admitted and treated for severe pneumonia at the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
His body was taken to the Homa Bay Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy while investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Ochieng had served in the Kenya Prisons Service for almost 20 years before his death.
