The Austrian side confirmed that they have sacked Ismail Atalan after a disappointing run of results that has left them in the relegation zone.

Wolves are winless in their last nine games, which leaves them second from last in the relegation zone with 14 points, just four above bottom-placed BW Linz.

“The ongoing losing streak led the club’s management to take drastic measures and inject new energy into an important phase of the championship. We thank Ismail for his dedication and wish him all the best for the future, professionally and personally!” read a statement from the club.

Ryan Ogam gets a new coach in Austria

The club have appointed Thomas Silberberger as the new head coach, in the hope that they will survive relegation at the end of the season.

The 52-year-old arrives with a wealth of experience in the Austrian league, with his most recent position at Admira Wacker Mödling. The former midfielder was previously the coach of WSG Tirol for 11 years.

“Thomas Silberberger takes over Wolves immediately and is responsible for ensuring their survival in the Premier League. Silberberger is expected to prevent Wolves’ losing streak and get their place in the Bundesliga,” read the club’s statement.

Why is management change important to Ryan Ogam?

Ogam will be hoping to impress the new coach, as he was completely frozen out of the first team under Atalan.

Ogam was relegated to play for the youth teams, with his last appearance for the senior team on October 29 last year in a cup win against Amstetten. He played for just 45 minutes before being forced off.

Since then, his only senior appearances have come for the national team, where he has become Benni McCarthy’s first-choice striker after Michael Olunga absence. He recently scored in back-to-back games against Estonia and Grenada during the FIFA Series in Rwanda.

What’s next for Wolfseberger?

The new Ogam coach will be hoping to get off to a good start when they take on Ried in their first game on April 11 at their home ground in Lavant Valley.

They will then have consecutive games against BW Linz in three days.
