Where was Godfrey Osotsi attacked?
In a statement on Wednesday, April 8, the governor of Siaya James Orengo said Osotsi was attacked at Java House, Western Mall, in Kisumu.
“The early morning brutal attack on Linda Mwananchi, the principal, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House, Western Mall in Kisumu, is a disgusting display of cowardice. Make no mistake, this was not a random act of violence,” Orengo said.
According to Orengo, the incident was a clearly orchestrated and organized intimidation scheme aimed at silencing the voices of the people.

In his statement, Orengo called on the police to immediately release the CCTV footage from Jaha House, warning that the incident was an attempt to incite ethnic war.
“We want the police to immediately release the CCTV footage from Java House and ensure the criminals are brought to justice without further delay. Planning this attack in the middle of Kisumu is a desperate and old-fashioned attempt to incite ethnic war between the Luo and Luhya communities, but we see through these dirty tactics of divide and rule!” he said.
The Siaya senator further said that the attack on Osotsi will not stop Linda Mwananchi, saying that the movement cannot be stopped.
“These acts of cowardice will not stop us. To the planners and their fools, you are wasting your time because you cannot kill an idea whose time has come. Protect the Citizen is a people’s movement, and this movement cannot be stopped!” he said.

“I strongly condemn the attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu. Kenya is a democratic country where everyone enjoys freedom of expression and participation in politics without fear or intimidation. Such acts of violence are unacceptable and those responsible must be brought to justice.”
“The Minister of National Security because of the lack of security, Raymond Omollo sent thugs who attacked Hon. Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu today. Get well soon, Mhesh.”
What seat is Godfrey Osotsi looking for in 2027?
The senator’s attack came a day after he announced his intention to succeed Governor Wilber Otichilo in Vihiga in 2027.
Otichilo, who was elected in 2017 on the ODM ticket, is serving his second and final term.
On April 7, Osotsi, who had previously been quiet about his political future, announced that he would run for governor, explaining his vision for the county.
Until then, no prominent person had expressed interest in succeeding Otichilo.
