Department of Meteorology Announces Counties in 4 Areas to Receive Rain Today, Strong Wind Marsabit

Nairobi – The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned of continued rain in selected counties in the next few hours.

What will the weather be like on April 9?

In a statement to Kenyans, Kenya Met said some areas in four regions will experience rain until 3pm on Thursday, April 9.

“Rain is expected to continue in some areas of the Eastern Highlands and Western Rift Valley, Coast, and North Eastern Kenya. Strong south to southeast winds of more than 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected in parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties,” Kenya Met warned.

Western Highlands Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley

In the counties of Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, PoisonousHomabay, Migori and Narok, sunny spells are expected this morning. Kenya Met predicted that some areas will experience rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi will experience sunny spells expected in the morning.

Showers are expected in a few places in the afternoon near higher ground.

North West Regions

Turkana and Samburu counties are expected to be sunny and dry all day today. Strong southeasterly winds of over 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected in parts of Turkana County.

North East

In Isiolo, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, and Marsabit, light rain is expected in a few places in the morning, while rain is expected in a few places in the afternoon.

According to the meteorologist, strong southeast winds of more than 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected in parts of Marsabit County.

Southeastern lowlands

The counties of Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos will experience sunny spells with the possibility of light rain in the morning.

Kenya Met predicted sunny spells with the possibility of heavy rain in a few places in the afternoon near Mt Kilimanjaro.

Beach

A few places in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River will receive light rain this morning before beginning periods of strong sunshine throughout the day.

How will the government help the victims of the Nairobi floods?

As previously reported, families who lost relatives in the massive floods that hit Nairobi were expected to receive KSh 200,000 each from the government.

The floods occurred on Friday, March 6, after heavy rains hit the city, sweeping away people and cars.

At least 24 people lost their lives, while more than 70 vehicles were swept away by flooded water despite rescue efforts.
