Sonko, the child’s legal guardian after the child witnessed the murder of his father, criticized Samwel Araka, the child’s uncle, for using methods to threaten the child after the disciplinary suspension.

The politician had hired Araka at the request of the family following the sudden death of his brother. However, due to his inappropriate behavior, he was suspended.

On Tuesday, April 7, Mtoto James’ grandfather, Jason Nyakeramba Ombui, and his former teacher from Mathare, Bosibori, visited Sonko to apologize on behalf of the family.

Ombui condemned Araka’s conduct, saying that the incident happened when they were planning to thank Sonko for taking care of their son.

“We saw the boy claiming that we want the child back. We do not support that idea. We want the governor to continue to take care of him because he is an orphan. We were shocked to hear about those threats through social media when we were planning with the chief and other family members to come and thank you. He made a mistake, and we apologize. It seems he wanted to destroy the life of the child,” said Ombui, Araka’s uncle, adding that everyone has their God.

He warned Araka against interfering with James’ safety, saying that his behavior angered the family and the entire village.

Bosibori expressed happiness after learning about the child’s progress.

“As his former teacher, I thank God for where James is. This child suffered. He could not even get basic needs such as food or even books. Now I see that he has grown up and speaks good English, and I am very proud of him,” he said.

“That thug shouldn’t try to scare you after ruining his job,” he added, questioning how Araka would feed the child, take care of him, and educate him.

Did Sonko accept the apology of the family of Baby James?

Sonko accepted their apology and reiterated his promise to allow the family full access to their son whenever they want to visit him.

“After a good meeting, we accepted their apology and agreed to give the family full access to the child whenever they want to visit him. We thank God for standing with us and leading us to unity and understanding. The child remains safe, loved, and well taken care of,” he said.

He vowed to make it easier for the family to travel from Kisii to Nairobi to visit the child, spend quality time with him, and even perform their traditional rituals.

However, they visited the child while he was swimming. Sonko reached out to him, asking him to come home in an hour and meet the guests.

Baby James could not remember his people and insisted that he did not want to return to Kisii.

“He met his grandfather only once during his father’s funeral. We thought it was good to allow him to meet his people,” Sonko said.
