The late Ojwang’ family recently honored his memory by fulfilling his promise to pay dowry to his widow in a fascinating traditional “nyombo” ceremony.

Led by his parents, the family presented the cow to Nevnina’s parents in Homa Bay, officially recognizing him as their son-in-law despite Ojwang’s tragic death in police custody in June 2025.

In a video that went viral, netizens noted how radiant and beautiful Nevnina looked since the last time she was seen in public.

She looked very attractive wearing an attractive dress that was a mix of modern designs and traditional African motifs, giving a modern Afro-chic look.

The top of the dress featured a custom-made corset, in black with a satin finish. The combination of the tight top and the wrap skirt created a traditional hourglass shape that looked elegant and modern at the same time.

While some viewers criticized the act as disrespectful, others speculated that it may have had to do with cultural traditions or the fact that the dowry had not been paid at the time.

During the emotional ceremony, the mother of one child remained steadfast, even after the preacher and the mourner tried to persuade or help her in the symbolic act.

Despite the special event, Nevnina used her condolence letter to praise Ojwang as a good person and urge Kenyans to respect his memory.
