Elsewhere, one of the newspapers drew attention to the funeral preparations for the former MP for Ol Kalou, the late David Kiaraho, where it has been revealed that he will not be buried in his constituency.

1. Daily Nation

The newspaper reported on the two-year contract of the director of DCIMohammed Amin, expected to end on April 1, 2026.

Amin has continued to serve on contract after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 in 2024. Official records show he was born on October 1, 1964, and was sworn into office on October 19, 2022 at the age of 58.

In 2024, he got a two-year contract extension, along with former Deputy Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, now Inspector General, who had also reached the retirement age of 60.

While Amin’s contract is due to expire, Kanja’s term runs until September 2028, when his four-year constitutional term will expire.

When asked if his contract would be extended or if he was preparing to leave office, Amin replied: “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

He made the statement in Kericho, while overseeing the investigation of a mass grave containing 32 bodies.

The Nation newspaper has revealed that there is a lot of lobbying going on regarding the position of DCI leadership, with indications that the president may not extend Amin’s contract.

Although some people close to the president were reportedly in favor of extending his contract, Amin is facing opposition from some politicians, colleagues and senior government officials.

The upcoming General Election is also said to influence decisions, due to the important role of security chiefs during the election.

Sources revealed that a group of politicians affiliated with ODM wrote to the president asking for Amin’s retirement as part of wider changes towards the 2027 elections.

Any changes in the DCI are expected to lead to further changes within the leadership of the National Police Service, according to insiders.

The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Charles Kanjama, explained that Amin could continue to serve as head of the DCI, but for a short time.

However, he warned that without an official appointment, the head of the DCI would be “in danger because you will be working to satisfy your superiors.”

Amin’s leadership was accompanied by protest of the youth of the Gen Z generation against the government in 2024 and 2025, as well as the kidnapping of critics of the government. During the violent crackdown on protesters, the police were responsible for the deaths of at least 50 people.

2. Nation Today

Taifa Today reported on the funeral preparations of the former MP for Ol Kalou, the late David Njuguna Kiaraho.

The people of the area are saddened by the decision of their late member of parliament to be buried outside the constituency.

For many, the decision highlights the complex legacy of a politician who was remarkable in his lifetime and now even after his death.

As usual in politics, his last wish has sparked a great debate in the community he has represented since 2013.

The place of burial at his residence in Tigoni, Limuru, Kiambu County, was confirmed on Monday evening, March 30, by the burial committee led by Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku and his assistant, Nyandarua women’s representative Faith Gitau.

In the announcement, they made it clear that the funeral will be held outside the county he served for a long time.

Preparations have already begun in Ol Kalou as leaders and residents prepare to pay their last respects.

“The family of the deceased, in collaboration with the funeral committee, has announced Friday, April 10, 2026 as the day of the funeral. The funeral service will be held at St Andrew’s Church, Nairobi, then the funeral will be held at his farm in Tigoni, Limuru, according to his last wishes,” said Thuku on behalf of the family and the committee.

According to the schedule, the vigil will be held on April 6 at his home in Munyeki village, before the funeral service will be held at Ol Kalou Stadium on April 7.

The family will spend the Easter weekend at their Ol Kalou home before the funeral takes place in Kiambu.

The funeral committee has been meeting at the offices of NG-CDF Ol Kalou but is expected to move to the home of the deceased in the coming days.

However, the decision to bury Tigoni has raised strong feelings among the residents of Ol Kalou, many feeling that the MP should have been buried in the area where he served politically.

Elder Isaac Ngugi said it is sad to see a leader who served them for many years does not want to be buried among the people who elected him.

“Most of us were not born in Nyandarua but we committed to work for it. It is sad that his heart continued to be in Tigoni,” he said.

Businessman John Githinji said although Kiaraho was known for surprising decisions, this has exceeded expectations.

“We knew he had a tendency to surprise people, but this has gone too far. During the campaign, his opponents called him a stranger, and now it seems he had a stronger relationship with Limuru,” he said.

Some residents have taken the decision as an important lesson for them to choose leaders with roots in the areas they are running for.

Mwangi Samuel said Nyandarua needs leaders from the area to bring about real development.

However, MCA Stephen Mureithi, who was a close associate of the deceased, urged residents to respect his last wishes.

He said Kiaroh’s leadership focused on development and was recognized nationally through the effective implementation of NG-CDF projects. Kiaraho’s political life was known for its complexity and unpredictability.

The accident left three passengers of the tuk-tuk and the driver of the Prado, registration number GKB 542U, injured.

Kiptoo, who had postponed his university studies in 2025 due to financial problems, was scheduled to rejoin in September this year. His father, Joseph Longin, said the family learned of his death through relatives there Poisonous.

According to Longin, his son was taken to Kisumu health center but was pronounced dead on arrival. He added that Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli helped the family move the body to Kiminini Cottage Hospital, where it is currently kept.

The family, who live in a rented house in Kiminini, say poverty has left them without land to bury Kiptoo.

“My son dropped out of school because of poverty. He chose to do manual work to pay the fees and then he met his death,” said Longin.

He explained that the family sold their piece of land to finance Kipto education. “We had a piece of land that we sold to support my son’s education but it was not enough to enable him to finish his studies,” he added.

4. The Star

The newspaper reported on a family seeking justice for their relative who died in controversial circumstances during a wedding in a coastal area.

James Obura received a call from his 33-year-old son, Kennedy Olilo, on November 1, 2023, he thought it was a normal conversation.

Olilo told him about the wedding in Diani, Kwale County, where he would be the chief groom on November 3.

Obura did not know that it would be their last conversation. On November 5, he was informed by his youngest son Moses that Olilo had died in mysterious circumstances.

Moses testified that the groom first informed him about Olilo’s death, and he informed their parents.

On Monday, April 30, appearing before the chief resident judge of Mombasa, David Odhiambo, Moses said he found Olilo’s body in the bathroom in Mvindeni’s house, with blood on the floor and wall and wounds on the chest and elbow.

Obura also testified, describing his shock when he saw his son’s body and confirmed that it was Olilo’s.

He raised concerns about flaws in the case, saying the investigation by Diani and later the coast police was insufficient, prompting investigators from Nairobi to take over.

A personal investigation of the family revealed other disturbing facts, including that the wedding that Olilo was supposed to attend had not yet taken place; it took place in January the following year.

Obura questioned why his son was misled about the wedding date and demanded clarification on the circumstances of his death.

Moses described Olilo as a cheerful, friendly and disciplined person.

“I want to know what happened to my brother. What caused his death. I just want justice,” he told the court.

Magistrate Odhiambo adjourned the investigation until September 1, to give investigators more time to investigate the events that led to Olilo’s death.
