Collins Ochieng’ Omollo received the disrespectful and sad message shortly before his children were sent home by their teacher.
The father of seven children, three of whom he adopted after the painful death of his sister who died of Leukemia, has been struggling to make ends meet.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Omollo said he has failed to pay school fees for his two children, although this was not the case before.
“I used to pay school fees on time, but you know how life is, especially due to the economic situation and unemployment. A lot of money goes to buy medicine for my son who has sickle cell anemia, and my father who has prostate cancer. They need special treatment, so the little money I get from labor ends up for their needs,” he said.
Why were Omollo’s children sent home?
Omollo shared a text message sent to him by a teacher, which he described as unsympathetic, leaving him confused and unsure of what to do.
The message was sent after he failed to pay school fees, which led to his children being sent back home.
“Hello? Don’t you see that you are testing my faith? If you don’t want children to study, then just let them stay at home and do nothing, please,” the message read.
The message was sent in the afternoon, as seen in the screenshot, shortly after the children were sent home due to non-payment of school fees.
Omollo writes a sad message on Facebook
Omollo had to return home early to be with his children as he contemplated his situation and what to do next.
He later posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook, opening up about his struggles and asking for help from good Samaritans and compassionate Kenyans.
“God knows I’ve tried, not only for them, but it started with my late sister. I tried a lot for my father and now my son, Sam. But chronic diseases can end not only money but also friendships and even your mind. I’m not the Collins I used to be. I wasn’t born to ask for food but to get it with effort, a role that I feel I’ve failed to fulfill for my children for a long time.
I just see my family going to sleep, then the nightmares start. Will they have food when morning comes? Sleep for me has become just like a story. I’m tired of pretending to smile at little Ronaldo, Ethan, and Sco every time I come home after another unsuccessful day. I am tired of carrying an empty bag and returning with it still empty,” he shared.
