DCI Catches A Woman Using “Rice” To Steal Nairobi Residents, Found With 40 Stolen Phones

Detectives from the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have arrested a woman suspected of being part of a high-profile robbery ring that targets the unconscious across Nairobi.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation prompted by a report at the Police Station Embakasi.

According to the victim, he was hanging out with friends at a local bar when an unknown woman approached him after a game of pool.

He hugged her, and immediately felt dizzy, he chose to leave for home with her.

How did the DCI find the suspect?

When he regained consciousness later, he discovered that many valuables were missing from his home, including two laptops, a Samsung S22, KSh 168,000 in cash, and jewelry worth KSh 50,000.

Using investigative methods, detectives traced the suspect Jane Wangare Ndungu to Havilla tenements in Kihunguro area in Ruiru.

A search of his residence revealed many stolen items, including 40 phones, 14 laptops, and an iPad with a keyboard, and several were confirmed to belong to the complainant.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is part of an organized crime network that uses drugs known as “rice.”

DCI’s message to the public

The drug paralyzes victims, allowing an accomplice to steal valuables and access sensitive financial information, which is then distributed through the commercial marketplace.

“The suspect has been detained while we continue to identify the extensive criminal network behind this high profile robbery,” the DCI statement read.

The suspect is now detained at the Embakasi Police Station, while investigations are ongoing.

DCI has urged the public to be vigilant in recreational areas and report suspicious activities immediately, using official reporting channels.

How did 2 women steal from a celebrant in Thika?

Earlier TUKO.co.ke reported that the police of Thika arrested two women suspected of being part of the ‘mchele’ gang after they allegedly surprised a drunk at the VSpot Nightlife club in Thika.

The women reportedly dragged the man to his car, put him in the driver’s seat, and one of them sprayed something on his chest before breastfeeding him.

Authorities said the victim was incapacitated by the incident. The suspects allegedly stole the man’s ATM cards and other personal documents before trying to flee the scene.

The Thika police responded immediately and found the man unconscious, with a bottle of alcohol on the ground that the remains of the whites had placed. Both women were arrested, and the victim was taken to the hospital.
