Nyamira – Residents of Nyamauro village in Nyakenimo township are left in shock following the discovery of Duke Nyang’au Obasancho’s body.

On Thursday, March 26, police in Nyamira confirmed that the body recovered from a shallow grave in Nyamauro is that of a medical officer who went missing last month.
When did Duke Nyang’au Obasancho disappear?
The 41-year-old medical officer was reported missing under mysterious circumstances on February 23, 2026.
The National Registration Bureau (NRB) identified the missing person, an important step in the case that was reported a month ago.
Police reported that the deceased was a medical supervisor and community health nursing officer at Nyamusi Sub-County Hospital from Kemera area, Manga Sub-county, Nyamira County.
Was Duke Nyang’au Obasancho killed?
Preliminary examination shows that the body had a fatal wound on the neck, which indicates that he was killed and secretly buried in a shallow grave.
The police took the remains to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary for safekeeping, pending an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The police are treating the incident as a suspected murder and have intensified their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those involved.
The case has raised concerns among residents and health professionals due to the position of the victim in the local health sector.
Police said that the cause of the incident is still unknown but confirmed that they are following promising leads, although no arrests have been made so far.

Grace Kanyeria was found dead in the Nyeri Regional Hospital mortuary on Saturday, March 14, after being missing for several days.
Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, his brother, Martin Mwangi, said that Kanyeria was reported missing after failing to return home on Tuesday, March 10.
The family had contacted the institution to confirm Kanyeria’s whereabouts, then they found out that he had not reported to school on the day of the incident, despite leaving home in the morning to go to school.
After several days of searching for him, police officers referred him to Nyeri PGH Hospital on Saturday, March 14, following a hospital report of an unidentified body.
While at the station, Mwangi confirmed the sad news; his sister had died and he was listed as unknown.
Investigations later revealed that Kanyeria was involved in an accident near Meeting Point while traveling from Nyeri town on the day of his disappearance.
He was rushed to PGH by the driver who reportedly hit him, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
