Godfrey Osotsi is Kicked from the Post of ODM Deputy Leader Following a Special Meeting of Delegates

  • Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga was approved as party leader, while governors Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir were appointed as deputies.
  • The fate of Osotsi is now in the hands of the National Executive Committee, which will discuss the resolutions of the SDC

Members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have approved the removal of Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi as the party’s deputy leader.

The party, under the leadership of Siaya senator Oburu Oginga, met at the Republic Squares on Friday, March 27, for the much-awaited Special Delegates’ Conference (SDC), another important event a few months after the death of its founding leader, the late Raila Odinga.

The new leadership of the ODM party

The question was asked to the members to approve the decision of the National Governing Council (NGC) last November to fill vacancies in various positions.

In SDC, Senator Oburu was approved as the party’s main leader, while governors Simba Arati (Kisii) and Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa) were the party’s deputy leaders.

The resolution to fill those positions was announced by the governor of Homa Bay Gladys Wangawho is also the national chairman of ODM.

Osotsi’s fate now rests with the National Executive Committee (NEC), which will discuss the SDC’s resolutions.

“After a long discussion, today we have decided to adopt the report of the National Leadership Council, dated November 13, 2025, which wants to fill the vacant national official positions as follows; Party leader, Senator Oguru Oginga, deputy party leaders, Mr. Paul Simba Arati, Mr. Abdulswamad Sharif Nasir, national chairman, Mr. Gladys Wanga, deputy national chairmen, Paul Otiende Amolo, and John Ariko Namuika, national secretary of organization, Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, deputy national secretary for organization, Mr. Ruth Adhiambo Odinga, secretary for political affairs, Mr. Rosa Buyu.

Similarly, the Special Meeting of Delegates, opposed the approval of Senator Godfrey Osotsi as deputy leader of the party, and this has been returned to the National Central Committee for consideration. And that will now be the memories of the Orange Democratic Movement Party, and make changes in the positions mentioned above,” Wanga said.

At the same time, the party said it will discuss the future of the secretary general who is in crisis Edwin Sifuna due to the decision of the Political Party Disputes Court (PPDT) to cancel his removal from the post.

ODM acting general secretary Catherine Omanyo said the party’s internal organs will act according to the instructions given by the court, which directed the party to use all internal mechanisms regarding the removal of Sifuna.

Omanyo said all ODM members, regardless of their status and position, should toe the line, pointing out that the Nairobi senator’s desire had been piqued as local bodies would act to enforce discipline.

“Members should at all times be bound by legitimate decisions made by party bodies from time to time,” Omanyo said.

Why ODM Rebels Are Opposing Oburu Oginga

Osotsi and Sifuna belong to a group of rebels, who have decided to disagree with the party leader.

While the group led by Oburu continued with the SDC, the Sifuna wing held their parallel meeting at the Ufufunga House.
