His comments come amid rising tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, as fears grow that the war could escalate.

The effects of the war are already visible in various parts of the world following the closure of the important Strait of Hormuz by Iran, the waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

What is Kainerugaba’s promise to Israel?

In a series of strongly worded posts on social media, Muhoozi, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, sided with Kampala in the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

In posts shared on X, the outspoken army chief said Uganda was ready to intervene if needed, warning that any attempt to defeat Israel would drag his country into war.

“We need the wars in the Middle East to stop now. The world is tired of them. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will get us into war. On Israel’s side!” he wrote.

Kainerugaba went further, saying that Uganda is ready to provide direct military assistance if requested by the Israelis.

“If Israel needs help, all it needs is to ask. Their Ugandan brothers are ready to help,” he added.

The army chief’s statement marks what remains one of the clearest statements from an African military on the conflict.

What warning did Muhoozi give to Iran?

In another post, Kainerugaba issued a warning directed at Tehran, suggesting that any missile attack would be met with retaliation.

“If Tehran dares to hit us with missiles, we will retaliate with our own missiles,” he said.

He also reiterated his long-standing position that Israel’s sovereignty must be respected, saying that “Israel has a right to exist and attacks against it must stop.”

Despite the fact that there has been no immediate official communication from the Ugandan government, Kainerugaba’s sentiments may be reflecting the nation’s position on the conflict.

Uganda has historically had a close relationship with Israel, especially in defense and intelligence cooperation.

Those relations started several decades ago and have continued to be stable even when Kampala is balancing cooperation with other powerful countries in the world.

Earlier this year, Kainerugaba announced plans to build a statue in honor of Yonatan Netanyahu, the brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was killed during the 1976 Entebbe rescue operation.

Be aware of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East

As previously reported, the conflict began on February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel launched joint airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, military infrastructure, and senior officials.

The campaign, fueled by alleged concerns about Iran’s nuclear program and missile capabilities, marked a sharp escalation in tensions.

In the initial phase, hundreds of attacks reportedly killed senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and destroyed key defense systems.

Since then, the conflict has turned into a sustained campaign of airstrikes, with thousands of targets being attacked across Iran.
