2027 General Election: Nairobi, Kiambu Counties Lead New Voter Registration IEBC Says

  • IEBC set a target of six million new voters in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration but has managed only 250,391 so far
  • Nairobi and Kiambu counties lead the way in registration, accounting for 27% of the total new voters since last September
  • According to data released by the IEBC, the majority of new voters are over 35 years old, making up 67.35% of those registered.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) seems to have failed to achieve its goal since the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across the country last September.

How many voters does the ‘Niko Kadi’ movement intend to register?

The organizers of the movement emphasize that their main goal is to remove the President William Ruto office in 2027. They accuse him of failing to implement his 2022 campaign promises, allowing widespread corruption, overseeing government incompetence, and committing human rights violations through illegal killings and kidnappings.

In Mombasa region, young people gathered at the offices of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to push for massive voter registration among their peers.

They announced a target of at least 18 million votes, which they believe will break the entrenched political system that has existed since independence.

According to them, this resolution is shared throughout the country, and they are committed to fully use the vote as a tool to realize their vision.

Before the launch of the ongoing voter registration exercise, the list of voters, by the year 2022, had at least 22.1 million voters.

However, not all voted.
