Nairobi women representative, Esther Passarishas spoken publicly after visiting the former Minister, Raphael Tuju.
The former member of parliament for Rarieda is currently admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Karen Hospital following a sudden deterioration in his health while he was in the hands of the police.
What information did Passaris give about Tuju?
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, March 24, Passaris confirmed that Tuju is receiving special treatment and expressed his relief that he has finally been allowed to receive medical care.
He said the situation calls for compassion, and urged Kenyans to continue to remember him in thoughts and prayers as they serve him.
“This evening I visited Raphael Tuju at the Karen Hospital, where he is receiving treatment in the ICU. I applaud the decision to finally allow Tuju to receive treatment. Let’s continue to keep him in our prayers for a full and peaceful recovery,” Passaris wrote.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing health and well-being, especially during times of challenge, while also urging people to refrain from politicizing the issue.
“There is a time in life when we have to reflect on ourselves honestly and be responsible. Let’s stop ourselves from turning this into a political game. Every challenge has a solution, even if it’s not the one we want,” he added.
When was Tuju taken to Karen Hospital?
Tuju’s admission to the ICU followed shocking events earlier that day when he was expected to appear in Kibera Court.
He was expected to face allegations of giving false information to the authorities, allegations related to the reports he made about unknown people who allegedly followed him, which made him go into hiding.
However, before being brought to court, Tuju’s health was said to have deteriorated, requiring him to be rushed to Karen Hospital.
According to his family and his legal team, the situation was caused by the way he was handled during the arrest, claiming that the process aggravated his already existing back injury.
Tuju has been recovering from serious injuries sustained in a road accident three years ago, and his lawyers said his condition made him more vulnerable.
They stressed that the events that occurred during his arrest may have aggravated his physical condition, leading to the current medical emergency.
This situation has raised feelings from political leaders, including the leader of the Wiper party, Kalonzo Musyokawho visited Tuju in the hospital.
Kalonzo expressed his concern about the way Tuju was treated, saying that the circumstances surrounding his arrest raise serious questions.
He said that supporting Tuju is based on the principles of rights and human dignity, noting that he has been with him at various stages, including the police station, the court, and now the hospital.
Kalonzo also questioned the presence of the police in the hospital, saying it was unnecessary due to Tuju’s condition.
How did Tuju get relief in court?
In the legal developments related to the case, the High Court intervened and granted interim relief.

Tuju’s lawyer, George Ndege, initially contested the legality of the way his client was treated, saying that the police actions were baseless and violated his fundamental rights.
