Nairobi: Raphael Tuju was rushed to Karen Hospital after his condition worsened

His lawyer Gregory Ndege said his condition worsened when he was being taken to Kibera Courts for arraignment a day after his sudden arrest.

The arrest occurred when police report that he was forced into their vehicle shortly after speaking to the public about his location following a reported abduction.

His family, lawyers, and doctors claimed that he was assaulted during his arrest, which they say may have been related to severe injuries related to his previous accidents.

What is Raphael Tuju suffering from?

Tuju was placed on oxygen in a police cell while a team of doctors from Karen Hospital examined him closely.

Speaking in court, the leader of the Wiper Patriotic Front, Kalonzo Musyokadescribed his condition as serious.

“I witnessed the abduction taking place inside the police station and I felt ashamed… Raphael Tuju is a patient recovering from a serious road accident, and doctors from Karen Hospital examined him while he was in the cell. What made me lose my composure was when the doctors said his blood sugar level was 1.9. At one point, we were even told that we could lose Tuju due to very low sugar levels,” said Kalonzo.

It has been reported that the case scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, March 24, was suspended while doctors were about to rush him to the hospital for emergency care.

He was to face one charge of giving false information to Chief Inspector Purity Kobia of the Karen Police Station, that unknown people were following him.

Meanwhile, a video recorded Tuju writhing in pain after his arrest, causing concern among Kenyans and his legal representatives.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru disclosed that Tuju survived the alleged attack due to their presence. He demanded to know why the former secretary general of Jubilee was arrested.

Accompanied by other opposition leaders, Kalonzo condemned Tuju’s abuse, stressing that no Kenyan deserves to be treated like that.

The leaders promised to stand by Tuju and remain at the station while she cried about the pain she experienced in her back. Kalonzo assured him that he would not die despite the pain.

Meanwhile, amid growing concern, the director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Mohamed Amid, claimed that Tuju was at his home after pretending to have been kidnapped.

He said that investigation revealed that Tuju’s phone was switched off at his home at 18:18 before the missing person’s report was filed.

Furthermore, Amin said that Tuju’s family prevented the investigators from entering his house, thus hindering the search operations.
