In a statement on Sunday, March 22, DCI said police officers on routine patrol received credible information that three suspects armed with guns were robbing innocent citizens in Makaburini area on the evening of Saturday, March 21.
“On the evening of March 21, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., officers from the North Nairobi Sub-Zone, conducting a routine foot patrol along the busy Jubilee Highway at Wangari Maathai Road, received credible information from a vigilant member of the public. The information indicated that three armed criminals—one carrying a pistol and the others armed—were robbing innocent citizens in the Cemetery area,” the DCI said.

According to the DCI, the officers acted quickly and wisely, joining the crowd, but moments later, three suspects attacked an officer as he emerged from the woods.
The suspects violently attacked an officer, forcing the officers to open fire, killing one suspect and injuring two others.
“Acting with speed and strategic discipline, the officers entered stealthily, mixing with the flow of civilians. Moments later, the three suspects came out of the woods and began a sudden and brutal attack on one of the officers. The main assailant pulled out a pistol and pointed it, causing an immediate threat to life. In legitimate self-defense and to protect the public, the officers opened fire. One suspect was shot dead at the scene. The remaining two, believed to be receiving gunshot wounds, they ran into the bush,” the statement said.
During the incident, officers from Starehe and Gigiri sub-counties found a Blow Mini 9 pistol, a magazine with 2 9mm bullets.
The DCI indicated that the suspect’s body was transferred to the City Mortuary pending identification and post-mortem.
“A thorough search of the scene led to the discovery of a Blow Mini 9 pistol, a magazine with two (2) 9mm bullets, one (1) round one covered, and two (2) additional 9mm bullets were recovered from the right trouser pocket of the deceased suspect. Officers from Starehe and Gigiri Sub-counties, along with Crime Scene personnel, attended the scene. The body was transported to the City Mortuary pending official diagnosis and post-mortem,” the DCI added.
