A police officer from Kisii county has been awarded for the kindness he showed to the victims of a fatal road accident in Kegati.
Derrick is good enough to be promoted by the president
The accident resulted in the death of two people, while several others were injured and rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Derrick was honored for his act of service, as he selflessly helped rescue the victims from the scene.
“Two weeks ago, a hero emerged in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii. Afande Derrick, a dedicated police officer, selflessly rescued accident victims in Kegati. His simple yet sincere actions spoke volumes for his character. Now, he is getting the recognition he deserves.
Lawmakers are paying attention, and there is even talk of a promotion from the President himself. ‘Do the right thing, and the world will take notice’, that is Afande Derrick’s motto in action. As a token of gratitude, the MP awarded him KSh 20,000. Keep shining, Afande! You are an inspiration,” Zaheer Jhanda’s Facebook post said.
MP Zaheer accepts Derrick’s act of volunteering
A video confirmed the politician’s action, showing him calling Derrick forward during a public meeting to thank him in front of residents who had gathered for the meeting.
Derrick, wearing a black face mask, humbly stepped out as Zaheer called out to him, prompting applause from the crowd.
Zaheer accepted Derrick’s act of selflessness and instructed his colleague to hand him KSh 20,000 as a token of appreciation for his efforts after the accident.
Social media users comment on Derrick being honored
Social media users flooded the comments section to comment on Zaheer’s actions and praised Derrick for helping the victims.

“Mhesh, God bless you… And Afande Derrick, your service to humanity, God will reward you.”
Prince Edu:
“Very good. Our brothers and sisters in uniform sometimes risk their own lives just to ensure the safety of others. They sacrifice their comfort. When we sleep in our houses, they patrol throughout the night to protect us, yet we rarely appreciate them. What the MP did was commendable. It’s time we recognized their efforts. May God bless all officers in uniform across Kenya for their endless sacrifice.”
