Immaculate spoke on behalf of her husband during their son’s service at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Don Bosco, Upper Hill.

He thanked the friends and family who were with them since they lost their beloved child.

The MP’s wife described their late son as a saint who liked to accompany him to mass every Sunday. He also admitted that they have not yet come to terms with the tragedy.

“According to all the protocols, I want to thank you all for coming here. In the last few days, we have been talking about our son. When I sat here and listened, I realized we had a saint among us. I find myself asking, we used to like to sit together in the first mass; he was my companion. He never said no to mass until this Sunday, when he was asleep. We still have not come to terms with this tragedy. We find comfort in the fact that he was a sincere Christian. He attended the community more than the rest of us. It is very rare,” he said.

He also shared memories he will cherish forever, saying he will miss his emails and his love for Japan.

The heartbroken mother also added that their son, as a teenager, had never had a romantic relationship, which is rare.

“He was attractive; he had a good spirit. We will miss him. We will miss him knocking on the door every morning asking, ‘mum, are you coming, or should I go to school and the driver will come back to pick you up?’ We will miss him standing outside Wilson Airport watching the planes take off and land because he wanted to be a pilot someday. We will miss his love for Japan. We will miss his emails. He liked to send emails. Ballot never accepted rejection. He would ask a question, then he would ask another. My mother used to say that he would be the priest of the family. He had never been with girls his own age; that is very rare for a child; he was a saint,” he said.

Immaculate said that their son’s last words to her broke her heart.

“My husband has asked me to speak on his behalf; he is going through a very difficult day today. Sharing a name with someone and then losing him. He was there, we were there, but he witnessed more when he took his last breath. When they were taking him to the ICU, his last words were, ‘mum, I love you.’ One day before he died, he asked me, ‘mum, will I recover? Mum, am I dying?’ I wondered what a 14-year-old child knows about death. But I think God sends us signs,” he added.
