He has promised that he will now face the president with arguments and an agenda instead of insults

Speaking at the DCP offices in Nairobi on Thursday, March 19, he said that the president has degraded the dignity of his office by responding with insults after being provoked

Why Gachagua will not engage in insults

Indicating a change in strategy, Gachagua said that Ruto he is trying to distract the opposition from the important issues and drag them into insults.

He listed the plans his government would put in place if elected, including subsidizing secondary education and restoring programs for pregnant mothers—emphasizing the politics of the agenda as the president wanted.

“We will stick to the issues. He has reached the level we wanted him to reach. He has angered Kenyans and that is why we wanted him to be angry. Now he wants to get us out of the issues and into insults. We will not get involved in that,” he said.

According to Gachagua, the president has descended into dirty politics due to the lack of an agenda to convince Kenyans and the fear of losing the seat in 2027.

He emphasized that they will focus on addressing important issues instead of toxic discussions, while adding that his supporters are free to respond to the president.

Gachagua also declared Nairobi to be his political stronghold and asked Ruto to come there if he wants to continue the insults.

“We will continue to face him with arguments. He is free to continue insulting and dealing with unfounded personal matters. We have pushed him to the end and now he is afraid that the seat will leave. Let him come to Nairobi, which is our political fortress, and insult us here,” he said.

Does Ruto regret his statements?

On his part, President William Ruto said he does not regret his strong statements, and has promised to continue to respond to attacks from opposition leaders who he claims provoked him.

His desire to respond to the opposition has sparked calls for his impeachment, while critics say he has tarnished the dignity of his office.

He defended his statements saying that he was only responding to what his opponents started.

On Tuesday, he said he was giving them “a taste of their own medicine,” while also giving advice on good nutrition after opponents said he had lost weight, and advised them to look at themselves first.

Addressing the crowd in Funyula, County kisssaid that if the agenda of the opponents is his own, then he is ready to face them.

The president said he will spend 99 percent of his time serving Kenyans and 1 percent dealing with the opposition.
