The aunt of two brothers speaks
The bodies of the two young men were identified by their relatives in Mochari City after they were removed from the rubble of the collapsed building.
The two were brothers who had traveled to Nairobi to look for job opportunities when they tragically lost their lives.
“We found their bodies here. There was a friend who was with them. He said he had left the building just a short time, and after five minutes he heard it collapse. He was the one who came to inform us and told us to go and check,” said Rose Gikoni, aunt of the deceased.

The Nairobi family makes a request to the government
“These were young people with great hopes who had just finished their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams and had come to learn skills. Luchera had come to learn how to make metal boxes in the solar industry, but today he is no more. We don’t know where to start. These are children from the same family and the same house,” said Joseph Ondego, their uncle.
The two brothers were among the four victims who lost their lives in the incident, while the other four who were injured were rushed to the hospital.
Gikoni asked the government to intervene and help pay the hospital bills, as well as the post-mortem costs.
“We are asking the governor to waive the bills,” he pleaded, noting that the family is in a difficult financial situation and is still in shock.
