Tukway claimed that her husband’s excessive jealousy often caused conflicts in their marriage.
“Every time he found a piece of paper, even if it wasn’t his, he would start a fight. He used to make small things big. He also used to beat me. In addition, he had a habit of traveling without telling me where he was going. Last year he left home in July and returned in November. When he returned, it was night and he was saying many things,” said Tukway.

The widow also explained that her husband was complaining of pain in his hand after having a tumor, which made the family seek medical help.
They had planned to raise money for his treatment to prevent the condition from getting worse.
“I left the house to look for money, and when I came back I didn’t find him. I asked the children where their father was, they said he had gone to the hospital. I wondered why he didn’t tell me, but I thought he was an adult and maybe he decided not to say. I thought maybe he was admitted.
By evening, he had neither contacted nor returned home. I waited until five at night, and there was still no contact or sign of his return, I went to sleep. The next day, I called my brother-in-law who we had planned to take Ama to the hospital. I told him the situation, and we started looking for him,” he said.
