What was planned to be a development tour quickly turned into a war of words, as the conversation turned from development to political arguments.

In Cheptais, Bungoma County, he lost control and faced his critics with harsh words and anger.

“The opposition, their agenda is only William Ruto, and if they want us to go there, I am ready. But because I am focused on development, I will give them 1 percent of my time, 99 percent will be for the people of Kenya,” said Ruto, starting the day of verbal attacks.

Calling his opponents names like fools, murderers, frauds, swindlers and thieves, Ruto did not mince words in showing them that they are not fit to lead.

He first targeted one opposition leader, then turned to another, disparaging him as he only inherited a political position from his late brother.

“There is another one here in Kitale, I don’t even know he was left a seat, farm and children by his brother. Are you going to lead the country when you can’t even manage your house? Go build a house and get married first, leave me alone,” said Ruto.

Responding to the attacks, Eugene said that the head of state cannot control his anger and has a tendency to lose his composure when faced with challenges.

He said he had never insulted the president to deserve such attacks.

According to Wamalwa, controlling anger is a challenge that the president has had for a long time, remembering how Ruto once lost his composure and almost beat him and Matiang’i.

“He has insulted me a lot. I want to remind him of Michelle Obama’s saying, that when they go down, you go up. Today Ruto has gone to the lowest level in his public life. Insults against Eugene Wamalwa were not suitable for the president. I respect him, and I have never insulted him. I want to tell him that he has always been an angry person, he once wanted to beat me and Matiang’i. That is true and there are witnesses,” he said.

“Is it a matter of behavior? He hasn’t started today. Controlling anger is a problem he has. When we tell him about the things he does, maybe because of anger or inability to control it, we don’t abuse him. Why would he come home to abuse me?” he wondered.
