Nairobi – Some Kenyans have been warned about heavy rains in the recent period. The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has shared its weekly weather forecast.

In a notice on X, Kenya Met warned that six areas are likely to experience heavy rain between Tuesday, March 17, and Monday, March 23.
Areas under alert include the Eastern and Western Rift Valley Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the wider Rift Valley, the Southeast Lowlands, and the Coast.
According to KMD, the north-eastern and north-western parts of the country will experience sunny and dry conditions in the next seven days.
“Rain is expected in the Eastern Highlands and Western Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, and Kenya’s Coastal region at high levels from Thursday. Isolated heavy rain events are also likely to occur in parts of these areas. Sunny and dry conditions are possible in the northeastern and northwestern parts of the country, although occasional showers are likely. Afternoon). High temperatures of over 30°C are expected in several parts of the country including Coastal, North-East and North-West Kenya,” Kenya Met said.
KMD estimated that the average night temperature is expected to be below 10°C in some areas of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, parts of the North Rift and near Mount Kilimanjaro.
1. Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley
Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, PoisonousHomabay, Migori and Narok will experience sunny spells at the start of the forecast period.
Morning showers may occur in a few places, especially from Thursday. Afternoon and overnight showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few areas, occasionally spreading to several areas.
2. North-West of Kenya
The meteorologist predicted that Turkana and Samburu counties will experience sunny and dry conditions at the start of the forecast period.

However, morning showers as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur in a few areas, occasionally spreading to several areas.
3. Highlands East of the Rift Valley
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi may experience rain in the morning in a few places.
According to KMD, afternoon and night showers and thundershowers are expected at few places and occasionally extending to several places.
4. North-Eastern Kenya
Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties will experience sunny and dry conditions at the beginning of the forecast period.
However, morning showers as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur in a few areas, occasionally spreading to several areas.
5. Low plain in the south-east
Kenya Met predicted that Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties, as well as the interior parts of Tana River county, will experience sunny and dry conditions at the beginning of the forecast period.
Morning showers may occur in a few places, especially from Thursday, March 19.
