Grace Kanyeria was found dead in the Nyeri Regional Hospital mortuary on Saturday, March 14, after being missing for several days.
What happened before the death of Grace Kanyeria?
Speaking to TUKO.co.kehis brother, Martin Mwangi, said Kanyeria was reported missing after failing to return home on Tuesday, March 10
The family arrived at the school to confirm Kanieria’s whereabouts, only to find that she had not reported her disappearance that day, despite leaving home for school that morning.
“When we asked, we found out that he was wearing normal clothes when he was going to school, he gave his uniform to someone, I don’t know where he went,” he said.
After a search of several days, police officers directed him to Nyeri PGH on Saturday, March 14, following a report from the hospital about an unidentified body.
At the station, Mwangi confirmed the bad news; his sister had passed away and was listed as an unknown person.
What killed Grace Kanieria?
Investigations later revealed that Kanyeria was involved in an accident near Meeting Point while he was traveling from Nyeri town on the day of his disappearance.
He was rushed to PGH by a driver who reportedly hit him, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“He was knocked down by a matatu around 5:00 p.m. while crossing the road to go change his school uniform. I think the same person who knocked him down was the one who took him to the hospital and later to the mortuary. He was marked as an unknown person because he did not have a school ID or anything to prove his identity at that time,” he said.
The student suffered serious injuries to his mouth, nose and head.
“He had blood on his face and a wound on his head. I couldn’t look at his whole body because it was hurting,” he said.
Mwangi noted that his sister had pursued her education and had missed school only twice since the opening date of January 2026.
In the first case, Kanyeria mistakenly believed that he was among the students who were asked to stay at home due to tax arrears, despite not having any debt.
“He never showed any signs of hating school. He was steadfast and committed,” he said and added that the family is waiting for the results of the autopsy to confirm the real cause of his death before taking any action against the suspect.
