Sakaja told the five experienced journalists running the program that the problem in Nairobi is historic and cannot be solved in three years.
He said that the current state of the city requires joint efforts from all stakeholders to be addressed, hence the decision to sign a cooperation agreement with the national government.
“Nairobi was built on a swamp. A 100-year-old problem cannot be solved in 3 years. The city has a challenge that needs a solution, and that is why I am in a partnership agreement with the national government. I am ready to provide a solution; let’s get resources,” said the governor.
When asked what his administration did to deal with the flood emergency last week, Sakaja said he sent more than 4500 Green soldiers to rescue those who were stuck.
“4500 Green Army was sent, we also had our fire brigade out there and we saved a lot of people. If we didn’t do what we did, we would be talking about many more lives lost,” said the county boss.
However, during the engagement, the governor did not understand and was not heard at the same time, making it difficult for the reporters to ask him more questions.
Linus Kaikai had to step in and end the interview, reminding the governor that the format of their show wasn’t designed for that.
“Governor, I think we should end there, the line doesn’t look good, nor the format of the conversation for this show. You were here with Jeff (Koinange) the other day, and you will be here again in another show to give your side of the story,” said Kaikai, whereupon Sakaja agreed and hung up.
A section of Kenyans who were following the show gathered on social media pages to share different opinions.
Some questioned the governor’s answers as he seemed to have trouble expressing himself clearly.
Rocky:
“Sakaja called Citizen TV Live on Air and joined the News Gang discussion, but he couldn’t explain himself well. Linus Kaikai had to end the call immediately to save Sakaja from further embarrassment.
Selani J:
“Is the governor okay? He seems to be having trouble expressing himself, is it the internet?
Sarah Saash
“That’s how he called and went straight to Yvonne Okwara’s neck but Yvonne was ready, then he switched to Sam and Sam didn’t accept his bait and then suddenly his internet had problems!
Edwin:
“There were no internet problems – News Gang did it professionally and saved him more embarrassment
Waweru Gathungu:
“It is by design, if we elect capable leaders, the country will continue. We can only hope to have another remnant.
