A viral video showed him a woman who was very angry breaking the windshield of a matatua situation that caused a violent conflict between him and the driver and his conductor.

Rumors and initial reports from witnesses claimed that the problem started after he gave a KSh 1,000 note to pay for the fare.

However, when they reached the CBD, the conductor had not returned his change and was nowhere to be seen.

When he raised the issue with the driver, the driver allegedly ignored him and told him to do whatever he wanted. In anger, he took a stone and broke the windshield of the matatu, which fueled the conflict.

The police investigating the matter said that preliminary investigations have shown that the driver and the woman know each other.

The OCPD of the Central Police Station, Phillemon Nyakombo, revealed that the driver and the woman have been in a relationship and have a child together.

“They had a difference about sending the child to school, and that escalated from their conversation until the violence happened,” he explained.

Nyakombo noted that the video that went viral showed only one part of the incident, adding that there is another side to the story that should be handled carefully.

“We need to protect this family, including their young daughter. So far the investigation has revealed that this was not a matter of fare or change; it was a family matter,” said the OCPD.

The woman gave her statement at the Kamukunji Police Station, while the man gave his statement at the Central Police Station.
