The altar of the church first attracted attention on Sunday, February 22, following the controversial visit of the President William Ruto.
Earlier, Kiengei had vowed never to allow politicians to climb the pulpit in his church or accept their donations.
He also publicly criticized the Ruto government after the death of mask seller Boniface Kariuki, who was shot dead by the police last year.
Even before the President arrived that day, tension had already started to emerge in and around the church.
Chief diaspora preacher Charles Wachira resigned, citing concerns about leadership. A few weeks later, gospel minister and church administrator James wa Makumbi resigned from his post and left the church, citing personal reasons.
A few hours later, Pastor Teddy Greatness of the JCM branch in Nyahururu also resigned, also citing personal reasons.
What did Kiengei say about leaving the church?
After a moment of silence, Kiengei seemed to address their departure indirectly through a Facebook post.
In his post, he reflected on the importance of remaining steadfast in prayer, even when criticized or misunderstood.
He used the biblical story of Hannah, explaining that people often misinterpret actions that they do not understand, but God sees true intentions and dedication.
“People often object to what they do not understand. When Hannah was at the altar, Eli thought she was drunk, but Hannah was not under the influence of wine; she was under the burden of heaven. If you are at the point of great pain, hear this: Your miracle is not in the debates of men; it is in the Altar. Listen to the opinion of Heaven, not the debates of men. What they call ‘madness,’ God calls you ‘intercession,‘” he wrote.

Speaking about remaining in the place of worship, Kiengei said:
“Our success has an address, and it is at the feet of Jesus. Do not leave your place of prayer; your miracle is placed there. God respects the heart that makes a covenant. When you make a vow, God puts a system in place to carry it out. Some burdens are too heavy for words. Take that unspoken pain to the Altar; He hears the language of your soul.”
