- NTSA has launched an investigation into the fatal accident that occurred along the Webuye-Kitale Highway in Lugulu that killed at least 18 people

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched an investigation into the fatal road accident that killed at least 15 people on Monday evening, March 9.

The accident happened in Lugulu, along the Webuye-Kitale Highway.
According to the agency, most of the deaths were bystanders and responders to the initial accident involving two motorcyclists.
NTSA noted that the drivers, heading in different directions, collided and died on the spot.
The public immediately arrived at the scene, unaware of the tragedy ahead.
“Preliminary reports indicate that two motorcyclists traveling in opposite directions collided, causing both riders to die on the spot,” NTSA said.

While they were responding to the operators, a speeding trailer hit them after losing control.
The trailer killed 15 people instantly.
Eighteen others suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the Webuye District Hospital.
“Unfortunately, the trailer from the direction of Kitale towards Webuye lost control when it reached the accident site, collided with people who had gathered to help in the rescue efforts. As a result of the incident, 15 people have been confirmed dead,” NTSA said.
NTSA expressed its condolences to the bereaved and prayed for a speedy recovery for the survivors.
At the same time, officials of the agency are in the field to reconstruct the scene and determine what happened.
NTSA advised drivers and road users to be careful when on the road.
“Our teams have been sent to the scene, and the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. While this investigation continues, we urge all road users to obey the rules of the road and prioritize road safety. Road safety remains our top priority, and we are deeply concerned about the alarming increase in accidents on our roads,” NTSA said.
