Kisumu: The Family Who Lost Their Daughter On The Duale Caravan, Speaks Out

A family in Kisumu is filled with grief after their pregnant daughter was killed in the Health Minister’s convoy Aden Duale you were going fast.

Duale was returning from a thanks giving ceremony in Rarieda, Siaya, when the accident happened in Otonglo area while they were heading to the International Airport of Poisonous. The accident resulted in the death of three people and many injuries.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Olang’o, a father of five, said that his daughter was the sole support of the family, after struggling to educate her until she completed her medical and surgical course at the Kenya Medical and Training College, Kisumu branch.

“I was at my shop when I got a call that Rose was involved in an accident. She was our hope. Through my small profit, we struggled to educate her,” said Olang’o.

Her mother, Hellen Awino, said she was waiting to meet her daughter at Kibuye Market before evening when she received a heartbreaking call from her husband.

When they arrived at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), the couple searched for their daughter among the injured patients without success.

“When we failed, they asked us how she was dressed and pointed us to the two bodies, Rose was lying there with many injuries, especially on her legs, hands and head,” he said.

He revealed that their second child was also expected to join KMTC this month, but due to the tragedy, the family will have to postpone their dreams.

Rose’s uncle, Daniel Nyambok, revealed that the young lady who had big dreams, was waiting to graduate after finishing her studies two weeks ago.

What support is Rose Olang’o’s family seeking?

Speaking after the accident, Duale promised to serve the victims.

However, Rose’s family has not received any communication or support from the government. Now they are looking for help to bury their daughter.

“No one came to comfort us from the government side. Right now we are confused. We are asking the government to help us put him to sleep so that he can pay us. I am also begging you to stop driving recklessly. This is what cost my child’s life,” Olang’o said with emotion.

“I am a vegetarian mother and we are struggling. Losing my daughter has broken my heart. She was the only girl, hope, and light for the boys,” Hellen added.

1 person died and 8 were injured in an accident on Valley Road

Elsewhere, a bodaboda driver was killed after a City Shuttle lost direction and hit several cars on Valley Road, Nairobi.

The accident left at least eight people injured, leaving families and survivors devastated.

Reports indicated that the driver of the damaged bus had warned his passengers about brake failure before the accident.
