In recent months, the opposition coalition has tried to show unity through activities and joint political meetings aimed at strengthening support towards the 2027 General Election.
However, Jubilee leaders have now said that the arrangement leaves their candidates at a disadvantage, especially in areas where various parties within the coalition are competing for political influence.
How is Jubilee isolated within the United Opposition?
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, March 4, Jubilee deputy leader Jeremiah Kioni claimed that the current system of public meetings benefits the members of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), while Jubilee candidates get few opportunities to communicate directly with voters.
According to Kioni, the few speaking opportunities given to Jubilee leaders in joint meetings make candidates seeking positions unable to present their agenda to the public.
“The platform does not help those who want to become parliamentarians, senators or MCA, especially within the Jubilee Party, because it seems we do not get the opportunity to present our arguments to the public. If we Jubilee members are not careful, we will not get a chance to introduce ourselves to Kenyans, because the United Opposition platform seems to benefit DCP members the most; they are the ones who seem to get that opportunity,” he said.
He added that he himself experienced the situation during a political meeting in his former constituency.

“Personally, I was denied the chance to greet the people of Ndaragwa, people whom I have led for more than ten years, even if they themselves were asking me to be given a microphone,” Kioni said.
Kioni previously served as Member of Parliament for Ndaragwa Constituency, an area located in the Mt Kenya region, where Jubilee and DCP are increasingly competing for political power.
How will Jubilee change its campaign strategy?
Although the United Opposition has continued to publicly present an image of unity in its national meetings, the Jubilee leadership is now indicating that the arrangement may weaken its candidates.
Kioni said that the coalition previously agreed not to have a “zoning” arrangement that would prevent parties from contesting in certain areas according to their strengths.
Instead, all parties were expected to field candidates across the country without restrictions, but the current pattern of public meetings contradicts that agreement by giving greater visibility to candidates of one party.
“And since we all agreed that there will be no zoning and that all parties will compete for seats everywhere, it is important for each party, especially Jubilee, to think about how we as Jubilee members who are looking for leadership positions will pursue those seats,” he explained.

In order to face the challenge, the Jubilee leadership is now planning to organize its political meetings in parallel with the big meetings of the opposition.
Kioni revealed that Jubilee candidates have agreed to start making their political platforms to sell their personal policies as well as the broad agenda of the United Opposition.
“As candidates, we have agreed to create a platform and start circulating. When we promote the United Opposition, we will also promote our candidates so that Kenyans can choose the leaders that suit them in their areas,” said the former member of parliament.
He added that the program will start in Nyandarua before spreading to other parts of the country as Jubilee candidates seek to strengthen their visibility at the local level.
Why did Kisii residents criticize the United Opposition?
Elsewhere, some residents of Kisii County criticized leaders associated with the United Opposition following a recent political visit to the area.
They claimed that the visiting politicians were more involved in the words of tensions instead of presenting clear proposals for development to address the challenges of the region.
Speaking on behalf of residents from Nyaribari Masaba and Gesusu Ward, Samuel Maranga said political competition was acceptable but warned that personal attacks could cause unnecessary divisions in society.
He explained that residents expected leaders visiting the county to express practical ideas on issues such as roads, health services, education, employment and economic growth.
