Governor Ntutu Says Ng’eno Had Offered To Give Him A Lift Before The Tragedy That Killed Him: “I Can Pick You”

Speaking during a memorial service at the African Gospel Church in Karen, the governor emotionally recounted how the late Johanna Ng’eno invited him to join her in the helicopter the day it crashed.

“That morning, he called me saying he was going to travel to Nandi. He asked me if I could join him later in the afternoon to hand out scholarship checks to needy students in Kapsasain Ward,” Ntutu said.

At that time, the governor explained, he was Maji Moto in Narosura, far from where Ng’eno was.

“I told him I was far away, in a place called Maji Moto, Narosura. Then he laughed and told me, ‘Governor, I have a helicopter. I can pick you up and you can join me later.’ I didn’t know that that was the last day I would talk to my friend and my son-in-law,” he added.

Ng’eno died along with Captain George Were, Wycliff Kiprotich, Robert Keter, Nicholas Koskei and Amos Rotich when the helicopter crashed on February 28 in Chepkiep area of ​​Mosop State, Nandi County.

The memorial service brought together family, friends and national leaders, including the Vice President Kithur Kindiki and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.

What is Ole Ntuntu’s relationship with Johanna Ng’eno?

While offering his condolences, Ntutu described the tragedy as very personal.

“Allow me to take this opportunity, on behalf of the people of Narok, to offer my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. For me, this is the saddest day of my life. I have lost my son-in-law. I have also lost one of my workers. All these young men are from my county, even the pilot,” he said.

Ng’eno’s wife, Nayianoi Ntutu, comes from the famous Ntutu family. She is the daughter of businessman Livingstone Ole Ntutu, the half-brother of the governor of Narok.

What did Ntuntu say about the helicopter tragedy?

Ntutu said that when he received news of the helicopter crash in Nandi, he immediately traveled to the scene.

He thanked the leaders and residents of Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties for coordinating the access to the bodies and facilitating their air travel to Nairobi.

According to the governor, Ng’eno was one of his main political allies and a close friend. The tragedy, he noted, has left a painful gap in his family and the entire political community.
