- The Kenya Met forecast increases the amount of rain in eight areas from March 3 to March 9
- Moderate to heavy rain is expected in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley
- Temperatures may exceed 30°C in coastal and south-eastern areas, with nights below 10°C in some areas
Nairobi – The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its 7-day weather forecast.
In a notice on X, the meteorologist predicted that eight areas are expected to receive heavy rain between Tuesday, March 3, and Monday, March 9.
Counties that will experience moderate to heavy rainfall are the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast.
“Rain is expected to increase in intensity and spread over several parts of the country during the period. Moderate to heavy rain, with heavy events, is possible in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, Coastal, Western, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya,” Kenya Met said.

The meteorologist also predicted that the Coastal, South-Eastern Lowlands, North-Eastern, and North-Western regions of Kenya will experience high temperatures above 30°C during the day and parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro are expected to record low night temperatures below 10°C.
“Temperature Outlook: Daytime temperatures (high) above 30°C are expected in the Coast, South-East of the Lower Valley, North-East and North-West of Kenya. Night temperatures (Low) below 10°C are possible in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro. Stay tuned for official KMD information,” the department said.
Kenya Met had indicated that the rains that fell in February will continue until the first and second week of March in several parts of the country.
“The rains that fall in February are expected to continue until the first and second week of March in several parts of the country. Technically, March is the beginning of the rainy season of March-April. However, the initial criteria defined as receiving at least 20 mm of rain in three consecutive days, without a dry period exceeding seven days after that have already been met in the Eastern Highlands and Western Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Lowlands of Southeast and South Coast,” KMD said.
