The family of the late Nick Kosgei has started making arrangements for the funeral of journalist and official photographer Johanna Ngeno, who died in the Mosop helicopter crash.

Kosgei was traveling with the MP on his visit to the Mara River area to inspect the flood damage, while the search and rescue operations for the two people who were swept away by the water continued to find them.

The helicopter, which was piloted by veteran captain George Were, is said to have faced bad weather and poor visibility, forcing it to land in the Chepkiep Forest.

Videos captured the plane struggling to take off minutes later before crashing and bursting into flames, killing all on board.

The tragedy has left the nation in mourning, with many paying tribute to Kosgei, whose dedication as a communications specialist and official photographer for MP Ngeno earned him respect.

The leaked WhatsApp chats showed that Kosgei was a young professional with big plans, whose life was cut short in the prime of his career.

Beyond his expectations, Kosgei was also a reliable person for his family there Bometserving as breadwinner.

What is Nick Kosgei’s last message to his father?

Speaking to Citizen TVKosgei’s father, Phillip Kosgei, revealed their last conversation. On Friday, February 28, Nick received a text message from his father with bank details to pay his sister’s school fees.

Phillip recalled that he tried to follow up the next morning to confirm whether the fees had been paid and to obtain a bank statement.

Unlike other days, Kosgei did not respond, apparently busy with the late MP. It was only later that evening that the family learned about his tragic death through social media.

“My other son tried to see if he was online on social media, but he wasn’t. I tried to find him on WhatsApp, but he wasn’t. You can send a message, but you didn’t answer. I started to get scared, and so did his mother,” Phillip said.

What plans did Nick Kosgei have for his family?

Phillip also reflected on the promises his ambitious son had made before his life was cut short.

“I was just waiting for him to come and help me, this year he decided to take care of his sister’s school fees, he told me to stop paying and he will do that, he also told me he will buy me a piece of land,” he added and explained that they have put their hopes in him. Kosgei’s body, along with other victims, has been kept at the Lee Mortuary, Nairobi before their burial.
